Customer Value First¶
Technology exists to create value. Not the other way around.
Engineers should understand who the customer is, what problem is being solved, and why the work matters.
What Good Looks Like¶
- Engineers can explain business outcomes, not just technical outputs
- Roadmaps are linked to business objectives
- Success is measured through outcomes
Good outcome framing: - Reduced onboarding time by 40% - Increased customer adoption by 15% - Reduced support tickets by 25%
Poor output framing: - Delivered 30 tickets - Completed 12 epics - Wrote 10,000 lines of code
Anti-Patterns¶
- Building technology without understanding users
- Prioritising technical novelty over business value
- Measuring success solely by output
